NARA wins the German Design Award 2023
The chair Nara chair chair by TM Leader Contract designed by Carlos Soriano wins the prestigious German Design Award German Design Award for 2023 in the Excellent Product Design – Furniture category.
Japanese aesthetic canons mark the starting point in this exercise of formal synthesis. The lines that make up the volumes of the product are simplified to give rise to a very direct and structured design, in which the form is strongly defined by the chair’s own function. The raised seat brings lightness to the product, and allows one to see how the product has been constructed. The soft curvature of the backrest contrasts with the straight-lined seat. The seat shares the same thickness with the legs, becoming strokes that draw the piece in a forceful way, which is accentuated in the version without upholstery. The upholstered version wraps the design and gives it a warmer approach.

The Nara chair translates traditional Japanese design language into a timelessly elegant piece of furniture, with a high level of precision craftsmanship and perfectly balanced proportions that draw attention to its visual presence.
